Community Budgeting For All Shifts to 2026 Election

May 31, 2024

PORTLAND, OR — Community Budgeting For All announced today that it will shift the timeline for its campaign to the 2026 election. This decision comes after careful consideration by Next Up, East County Rising, and Participatory Budgeting Oregon’s goals and priorities moving forward.

Since the campaign's launch in March, Community Budgeting For All has made significant impact by engaging Portlanders about how they can have greater voice and vote over their City budget. In three short months the campaign engaged in tens of thousands of conversations with Portland voters, gathered over 26,000 signatures, and secured endorsements from over 50 organizations, businesses, and individuals. These achievements show that Portlanders are ready for a more inclusive and equitable budgeting process in Portland.

“While we are shifting our campaign’s timeline to the 2026 election, we remain fully committed to our mission that Portlanders have the right to  actively and directly shape investments made in our communities,” said Stephanie Madrid, Community Budgeting For All Campaign Manager. “We believe that by focusing on education and community engagement of all residents, we will further strengthen our partnerships and expand our outreach to ensure an inclusive engagement process in 2026.”

As Community Budgeting For All looks ahead, the campaign will continue its fundraising efforts, coalition building, and work on raising awareness about why and how we can democratize public budgeting in Portland. We remain dedicated to fostering transparency, collaboration and accountability in Portland’s budgeting process, and are excited to embark on this next phase.

In the meantime, stay tuned for future communications and events as the campaign continues its journey toward bringing participatory budgeting to Portland.
